Recent Campaign News and Updates:
- Read Jeff's reaction to Judge Susan Bolton's decision regarding SB1070 on the Press Release Page.
- Our five-term incumbent Congressman, Jeff Flake, recently went on record as opposing Arizona's new immigration law, SB 1070, calling the law "imprudent." http://flake.house.gov/News/DocumentSingle.aspx?DocumentID=183060. Jeff Smith supports the law and acknowledges that Arizona has every right to defend itself against the current invasion of illegal immigrants. This law does not impose any requirement to carry proof of legality that doesn't already exist in federal law. Furthermore, we not only allow, but expect, our police to investigate when they suspect someone of having committed a crime - why should it be any different when it comes to the crime of being in this country illegally?
- Jeff Flake also co-sponsored and voted for H.R. 2499, the bill that could lead to statehood for Puerto Rico. This despite the fact that Puerto Ricans already had the ability to vote on whether or not they want to become a state. In fact, they have managed to hold three such elections, voting against statehood every time. Couple this with Jeff Flake's support for a bill that would grant permanent voting representation to Washington D.C. (in contravention to the will of the founders), and one has to wonder why Jeff Flake supports measures that are so obviously aimed at swelling the ranks of liberal Democrat voters and legislators?
- Our road signs and yard signs are in, and you may have have seen some as you drive around the district. Putting up signs takes a considerable amount of time and effort - if you are able to help out in this effort please contact the campaign and we will see you get the signs you need. We appreciate your help!
- Walking neighborhoods and knocking doors is still the most effective means of campaigning, even in the high-tech, media-intensive world we live in. Knocking doors will continue to be a priority for Jeff right up until the primary election (and beyond, once we win!), but the district is too big for Jeff to visit every neighborhood. If you are interested in volunteering in a truly meaningful way, contact the campaign and we can direct you to our high-priority precincts and give you a walking list and handbills to distribute to the voters. This effort can be hard work, but it can be very satisfying.
